MBA CONTINUES to be one among the most preferred courses among
the graduates in Coimbatore when it comes to higher studies. Commerce
and business-related subjects still enjoy a better status than
other Arts and science subjects even though new entrants in the
scene such as fashion and costume designing have also managed
to catch the attention of many.
Waiting list
Some colleges have requested the All India Council of Technical
Education (AICTE) for an increase in the number of MBA seats.
"We have 60 seats now, all of which have been filled up.
Twenty-five are on the waiting list.
We hope to get an additional 30 seats this academic year,"
said D.Ravi, Senior Lecturer at the CMS College of Arts and Science.
However, the seats have not yet been sanctioned, he added.
Similarly, D.J Academy for Managerial Excellence has also requested
the AICTE to increase the seats by another 60. The demand is huge
this year and the college is finding it difficult to cater to
it, said an administrative officer. Though the seats have not
yet been sanctioned, the college expects it to be sanctioned by
this academic year. Classes for MBA courses begin by mid July
in most of the colleges.
Options plenty
The options for those looking for Masters programmes in
management-related subjects are plenty. With courses such as international
business, hospital management and commerce with specialisations
such as finance and control and computer applications, the trend
seems to stay on, management faculty say.
