ORIGIN AND INCEPTION
The School was started in 1981, IYDP (International Year for the Disabled
Persons) with 2 children aged 4 years were admitted to Nursery School
in U.K.G. and the strength of the class was 12 only. This grew into
a special school called "VIDYA VIKASINI OPPORTUNITY SCHOOL".
About us
VIDYA VIKASINI INSTITUTIONS, as it stands today,
was started in a humble way in November 1973 on Children’s
day with just 5 students. Thirty years down the road of success,
the group now has in its fold a Nursery School, Matriculation Higher
Secondary School and an Opportunity School (offering special education
to mentally challenged children). The Institution is associated
with various Government sponsored social welfare programmes including
training courses in Early Childhood Education and Special Education.
The Institutions have excelled in their own spheres of activity
and have made a mark for themselves in the education map of the
region.

The School
The Sanskrit words VIDYA VIKASINI
means ‘Education Progression’.
True to the meaning, the school aims,
to provide comprehensive education for the holistic development
of student
to bring out and develop innate talents of students
to promote good conduct and discipline
to include qualities of integrity, honesty, trust, compassion, tolerance
and courage with thirst for knowledge and make them successful builders
of our nation
Management
The Institution is run by VIDYA VIKASINI SOCIETY
a Registered Society, founded in November 1973 by Mrs. S.S. Jayalakshmi
and a group of like-minded people with an inspiration to serve for
the cause of education.
The Founder and Director of Vidya Vikasini Institutions, Mrs.S.S.Jayalakshmi
hailing from a family of teachers, is a dynamic and charismatic lady
ever radiating with bubbling enthusiasm. She is the driving force,
steering the Institution to its path of success. She is informal and
perhaps the most easily approachable Correspondents of all institutions.
She is the recipient of several prestigious awards at district, State
as well as National level for her outstanding service in the field
of education and for the welfare rehabilitation of the handicapped.
She has over 4 decades of outstanding experience in the field of education
and her expertise is utilised by State and Central Governments even
now.
Location
The office of the society and the institutions are located in a sprawling
campus in serene and calm surroundings with a picturesque back drop
of the Blue mountains on the Coimbatore - Mettupalayam highway
about 10 kms away from the main city. Situate in a semi rural location
and having a urban/rural mix of students, the school has been indeed
contributing to the cause of education.
Facilities
Laboratory The School has full fledged, well ventilated
and fully equipped independent laboratories for Physics, Chemistry,
Biology & Computer Science. Adequate
updation of equipment and hardware/software is continuously carried
out.
Information Technology
Computer labs
The school has two sophisticated computer labs with
Windows NT
The Computer Labs are updated every year with latest
versions of utility/popular software packages.
Computer Education is offered for all classes right
from UKG with sufficient time slot for all the students
to get maximum exposure in practicals.
Audio Visual
Aids Models, charts, video
and audio cassettes, T.V, V.C.R. and overhead projectors enable
the students to have a better understanding of the abstract
concepts. Remedial Teaching
To help the students with
learning problems or emotional stress, a resource room is set
up with a resource teacher and suitable teaching aids. Remedial
assistance is given for such students with one to one ratio
to improve their performance. This will help them to get concept
clarity and go back to their own class with confidence.
CO-CURRICULAR AND EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
The school fosters a high degree of competence
in several co & extra curricular activities. Students are encouraged
to participate in these activities in a big way.
Sports and Games
SPORTS AND GAMES Strictly following the dictum, "healthy
mind in a healthy body", the school offers equal opportunities
in the sports field. The school offers outdoor games like Volley
ball, Cricket, Ball Badminton, Tenikoit and indoor games like
Shuttle Cock, Table Tennis, Chess, Carrom etc.
CLUBS
To tap the latent talents in children, the school has in place the
following clubs: Quiz club, Literary and dramatic club, Interact club,
Nature club, Maths club, Science club, Social club and Fine arts club.
INDOOR STADIUM
The multipurpose indoor auditorium within the complex is an excellent
structure which provides facilities
to stage cultural events, conferences, lectures, speeches and competitions
to play games like shuttle badminton, Table Tennis etc. (State of
the art court with lighting). for a fitness centre with a number of
equipment like treadmill, exercycle and stepper rower machine benefiting
students, staff as well as parents and interested public selectively.

CLASSES
a. FINE ARTS
There is special provision for the students to learn Indian
classical music and Bharathanatyam to augment their interest.
Arts and Craft classes are arranged during summer holidays
which include both visual and performing arts.
AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS
Correspondent receiving the
National Award for the Best Institution (2003-2004)
The School has many outstanding
awards and achievements to its credit.
The Correspondent has been the recipient
of many awards at District, State, National, awards for
dedicated service to the mentally retarded children. Perhaps
the only institution to receive National Award twice in
a span of ten years.
The Principal has won the State Level “ Best Teacher
“ Award in 1995.
The School has also won the State Rank in Hindi in 1997 Examinations.
The Children regularly get high percentage marks
and Centums in individual papers every year.
Our District collector Thiru. Kosalaraman awarded
our budding scientist of class xii.N.Selvakumar the ii prize for
his mini Diagostic centre at the District level Science Exhibition
2004.
Shuttle Badminton player, J Dinesh Kumar of class X selected
for the National level Shuttle Badminton Tournament representing
Tamilnadu.
