Over the last sixty years, the School has grown over more then ten times, in terms of annual intake of students from 20 to 213. Initially the School used to impart training in the field of Architecture at under-graduate level while presently, it trains Architects and Planners at under-graduate as well as post-graduate levels. Traditionally, the School admits both fresh graduates and professionals at the PG level. Of the several thousand professionals trained by the School so far, many are well known throughout the national and international community for their professional excellence and integrity. Fortunately, many of them continue to associate themselves with the School as faculty members or examiners.

The School offers consultancy services in various fields to Government, Semi-Government and Public Sector Undertakings in professional work as well as research studies covering a wide variety of themes and scales, so that the faculty keep abreast of the profession and impart latest know how to students. The School is nodal centre for Quality Improvement Programmes of All India Council of Technical Education, Government of India.

Recognising the role played by the School in training architects & planners, the School was conferred the status of ‘Deemed to be a University’ in 1979. This has enabled the School to broaden its academic and research activities and award its own degrees. Since then the School has introduced various other specializations in addition to the existing courses at PG level such as Building Engineering & Management, Environmental Planning and Industrial Design and has also initiated doctoral programmes under the various specializations.

Over the years, the School has developed an excellent Library, Computer Centre, Centre for Studies and Laboratories as support facilities. The School maintains excellent links with the international academic community, thereby keeping itself well informed about the latest concepts and trends in the respective fields. As a part of the School’s constant effort to improve its performance, a 20 acre site in southwest Delhi is being developed as a self-
