School of Planning and
Architecture specializing in the fields of architecture and planning,
also known as “SPA” is well known nationally and internationally.
Over the last sixty years, the School has grown over more then ten
times, in terms of annual intake of students from 20 to 213. Initially
the School used to impart training in the field of Architecture
at under-graduate level while presently, it trains Architects and
Planners at under-graduate as well as post-graduate levels. Traditionally,
the School admits both fresh graduates and professionals at the
PG level. Of the several thousand professionals trained by the School
so far, many are well known throughout the national and international
community for their professional excellence and integrity. Fortunately,
many of them continue to associate themselves with the School as
faculty members or examiners.
The School offers consultancy services in various fields to Government,
Semi-Government and Public Sector Undertakings in professional work
as well as research studies covering a wide variety of themes and
scales, so that the faculty keep abreast of the profession and impart
latest know how to students. The School is nodal centre for Quality
Improvement Programmes of All India Council of Technical Education,
Government of India.
Recognising the role played by the School in training architects
& planners, the School was conferred the status of ‘Deemed
to be a University’ in 1979. This has enabled the School to
broaden its academic and research activities and award its own degrees.
Since then the School has introduced various other specializations
in addition to the existing courses at PG level such as Building
Engineering & Management, Environmental Planning and Industrial
Design and has also initiated doctoral programmes under the various

Centre, Centre for Studies and Laboratories as support facilities.
The School maintains excellent links with the international academic
community, thereby keeping itself well informed about the latest
concepts and trends in the respective fields. As a part of the School’s
constant effort to improve its performance, a 20 acre site in southwest
Delhi is being developed as a self-contained campus of the
