The College of
Arts and Crafts has been established on 25th January, 1939 on the
occasion of Saraswati Puja by Late Radha Mohanji. It started in
the rental house in Govind Mitra Road of Patna. In the beginning,
the first member of the management committee was Dr. Rajendra Prasad,
the first President of India.
In the year 1949, the Government of Bihar has taken over and named it
as “Government School of Arts and Crafts”. It started imparting
five year diploma course.
The College shifted to the present big building behind Patna Museum.
The hostel is also in the same campus. Finally it was transferred to
Patna University for its overall development on 12th April 1977. Then
it started imparting degree education.
The major attraction of the College is the famed Art Gallery of the College.
This Art Gallery in renowned nationally and internationally as a treasure-trove
of rare works of the Bengal School, the Patna Qalam and of different
schools of miniature paintings.
