Poet Laureate ‘Rashtra Kavi’ Manjeshwar Govinda Pai, the Govinda Pai Memmorial Government College, Manjeswar” was formally inaugurated on 22nd September 1980 by E.K.Nayanar, the Chief Minister of Kerala in the presence of Sri.Gundu Rao, the Chief Minister of Karanataka, Sri.Baby John, Minister of Education, Government of Kerala, Dr.Subba Rao, Minister for irrigation, Government of Kerala and Sri.M.Veerappa Moily, Minister for Finance, for Finance, Government of Karanataka.

For over an year in the beginning, the college functioned in the ‘Vanabhojana Sala’ belonging to ‘Sreemad Anantheshwara Temple'. In October 1981 it was shifted to the semi finished buildingin the compound of the late poet, provided by the Sponsoring Committee of the College, In October 1990 the college shifted to its permanent abode in the Hosabettu village of Manjeshwar. The college was upgraded in 1981 when the B.A.Degree Course in Kannada was started B.Com Degree Course was started in the year 1193. with the establishment of the Malabar University in 1996 the college became an institution affiliated to the Kannur University.
