The
Government college, Kasaragod was started in August 1957 with
the opening of the University Previous class in the premises
of the Government High School, Kasaragod. The college affiliated
to the University of Kerala was formally inaugurated by Sri.Achutha
Menon, the then Finance Minister of Kerala. Degree courses in
Economics and Mathematics were started with the five year classes
in 1958-59 and second Year classes in 1959-60. The institution
became a full fledged first grade college in 1960-61 with the
opening of the third year degree classes and shifted to its own
permanent new building on 2nd January 1961.
English under part IV for B.A. and Sanskrit as a additional
language for University previous and degree classes were started
in 1961-62. The construction of the second stage of the college
building was completed during the year and the building was inaugurated
by Sri.Pattom A.Thanu Pillai, the then Chief Minister of Kerala
on 11th February 1962. B.Sc. Geology Main was started in the year
1962-63 and B.A. Kannada Language and Literature in 1963-64.
