Sree Narayana College, Punalur was established in 1965 by the Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam with Pre-Degree classes in Science and Arts Groups. Gradually it grew to a first grade college offering Degree Courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, History and Commerce and Post Graduate course in Mathematics.

The U.G.C. aided B.Sc Industrial Chemistry was started during 1998-99. At present more than 2,300 students benefit from this institution of higher learning. Eventhough this college is situated in a backward area, it has made its mark in educational, cultural and sports fields. In academics as well as in field of sports the students of this college have brought laurels. At present there are 63 teachers and 43 non-teaching staff in the college.
