Established by
the Canossian nuns in 1954, ably guided by its Principal, Dr. Sr.
Rosa Chacko, with a staff 135 strong, St. Joseph's College for
Women, Alappuzha, has much to be proud of. Though situated in a
financially regressive ,academically under-achieving area, the
College has often secured a niche in the hall of fame through many
a rank.
The college has often created vibrations in the University Arts Festivals
and in sprots, especially basketball. It has never confined itself to
an academic ivory tower but has gone out to the people in a multiplicity
of social upliftment ventures. Youth programmes have been frequently
arranged to provide spiritual and emotional base to the students. An
embodiment of graciousness, it has been the host to several dignitaries;
regional national and international and also been the venue for various
functions of the Kerala Univesity.
