St.Xavier’s
college was started in 1964 as part of Loyola Institutions, Sreekaryam.
In 1965, it was shifted to the present site 4.5km west of Kazhakuttom.
It is established and maintained by the Jesuit Missionaries of
Kerala.
It was upgraded to a Degree college in 1977. Now it offers degree courses
in History, Physics and Chemistry. The UGC sponsored BSc Industrial Chemistry
was introduced during this academic year. Like other Jesuit educational
institutions, St.Xavier’s aims at the training of young men and
women of quality, who would grow up as creative leaders and responsible
citizens, in the service of the people. Every effort is being made to
see that the students become intellectually equipped, morally upright,
socially committed and God conscious.
The motto of the college is ‘Asathoma sadgamaya’ meaning ‘from
evil lead me to good’.The college provides facilities for such
extra curricular activities as NCC (Army & Navy), N.S.S, Sports and
games, Union activities, Associations of different departments, Christian
students activities, various clubs etc.
