Ewing Christian college was established in 1902 and Dr. Arthur H. Ewing was its first principal. The college campus is spread in 42 arcs of land located on the northern bank of Jamuna river near Sangam on the southern part of Allahabad city. The college is a Christian minority educational institution and control by the Ewing Christian College society .It is an undergraduate college associated with the university of Allahabad.

The University Grants Commission on the recommendations of Allahabad university and UP state government granted the autonomous status in the year 1994. College is allowed to frame its own curriculum , conduct examinations and evaluate manuscript of its students. However the bachelors degree is still awarded to the students by the University of Allahabad.The medium of instruction in class room is mostly in English in science courses while it is in Hindi and English both in most of the arts courses. Regular attendance in the class room has been compulsory and a system of mid term examination (in the month of December) has been introduced and is working satisfactorily. College is also planning and working hard to introduced semester system as soon as possible. The college management regularly screens various academic programs so that the high academic standard remains maintained .

College has completed its 100 years and has well equipped laboratories. The college library has collection of about 75,000 books. The college also has the health center, chapel, games, and sports facility. The college also has modern gymnasium and indoor games facility beside a very big playing ground for outdoor games. To address problems related with girls and also to provide them counseling a women cell is also established. College also has minority coaching center, student council , cafeteria etc. to provide student support services. Beside academic activities the college also encourages students to take part in other activity like NSS,GPS,TSS,etc.College is well aware with the changes going on very fast in the society and to full fill the needs. The college has introduced several self financed vocational courses at the first degree level like -Electonics,Computer Application Biological Technique and specimen prepration(BTSP),Office Management and Secretarial Practices (OMSP),and Archaeology & Museology , as per University Grants policy. Several Diploma programs like 'O'-level diploma Diploma in Computer Application), Post graduate Diploma in Computer Application(PGDCA),Diploma in Medical Laboratory technology (DMLT),Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management and Administartion(PGDBM),Diploma in Spoken English and Secretarial Practices. Following Certificate courses of short duration are also run in the college-Spoken English and Personality Development, Spoken Sanskrit and Application of Computers in Solving Mathematics. College Students may enroll themselves in these diploma courses while continuing studies of degree level. The college, being autonomous, has privileges to hold its own convocation every year since 1997.Ewing Christian College ,under UGC scheme of colleges having potential of Excellence ,has been selected by Allahabad University and has forwarded the name of the college to the UGC New Delhi for final selection. College has started B.Ed. course(under Self financed scheme) from the session 2003-2004.The course is duly approved by NCTE. Ewing Christian College believes in developing understanding of goodwill not only with in the country but also out side the country. It has international linkage with a college of Wooster ,USA and with Bokhem University Germany. The exchange program with college of Wooster has been reestablished by Dr. M. Massey, the principal of Ewing Christian College.

Recently Ewing Christian College Society had decided to enter into teaching of technical courses and established a new institution in the name of Ewing Christian Institute of Management and Technology(ECIMT) ,having 1.25 arcs of lush green campus adjacent to Ewing Christian College.

This institution at present runs MCA course approved by AICTE.The degree of this course will be awarded by U.P. Technical University Lucknow. The staff ,teaching and non teaching ,and management of the college are trying their best to full fill the motto of the college-"STUDY TO SHOW THYSELF APPROVED UNTO GOD".
