In the year 1994, The Ponniamman Educational Trust was founded for the purpose of imparting technical education with special focus on the under privileged sections of society. With the economy opening up to global competition, the demand for highly qualified and trained engineering, management and computer graduates is on the rise. The Trust founded the Thangavelu Engineering College and the Thangavelu College of Science and Management with the objective of turning out prospective executives in technical and management comparable with the best in the country.

The Trust is also engaged in philanthropic activity, offering scholarships to needy and deserving students every year and also helping uplift physically handicapped students by giving them all possible assistance.

Greening the environment and maintenance of the ecological balance is another chosen aim of the Trust. Thousands of tree saplings have been provided to poor farmers with the twin objective of alleviating their poverty as well as afforestration of Tamilnadu.
