Kota Open University was established on 23 July 1987. It came into being as a part of the Open University network for India. The University headquarters are located in Kota and its jurisdiction of operations extends over the whole state of Rajasthan in India. 3 The distinctive features of the University are:3 - Advancement and dissemination of learning and knowledge by a diversity of means3 - Provide opportunities for higher education to all segments of society in the State of Rajasthan who are not able to use conventional systems

To promote the educational well being of the society in general

To produce trained manpower as per the needs of a developing society

To cater rural areas with quality higher education

To make higher education cost effective so that the real democratisation of higher education can take place in the state.
