Sourashtra Community, remembered in history for their glorious past, possessing a rich heritage migrated to the southern districts of Tamilnadu, started Sourashtra College in June 1967. This college is a linguistic minority and co-educational institution. This is a Sourashtrian's artful impression on education that makes everyone feel admired. They are a largely good, skilful and impressively organized group and have gained importance in recent years in world level. Sourashtrians are always maintaining close relations with other communities and get closer to common people through education, philanthropic deeds, spiritual devotion and so on. The sheer majesty of sourashtra community in education is impressive with quality imprints and bringing major change to the advanced educational systems. Sourashtra College has engraved its superb undertakings for the past four decades. The Council of Sourashtra College is a body with dedicated spirit, strong determination, unusual talent, confidence and efficiency. Every member in the garden of Sourashtra College is playing a significant role and is a piece of education and exciting pleasure to students of all walks of life.

Sourashtra College Council is the backbone of Sourashtra College and its members are really able and kind hearted. Since 1972, Sourashtra College, with magnificant buildings on the slopes of Pasumalai Hill with a panoramic view of the Lord Muruga of Tiruparangundram Temple has been functioning with 2000 UG students and 600 PG students in various disciplines (viz MBA, MCA, M.Sc (CS), M.Sc (CS & IT), M.Sc (Biochemistry), M.Sc (Microbiology). In 1967 Sourashtra College dawned with PUC in the Premires of the age-old Sourashtra Higher Secondary School, at Kamarajar Salai, in Madurai City.

Sourashtra College, popular in recent years,is an aided private college, managed by towering personalities of sourashtra college council and affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. In 1998 Sourashtra College for Women was established to glorify the women hood and is functioning effectively controlled by the same council. The full credit goes to the towering personality who takes all possible effors with good patronage for establishing the Sourashtra College for Women.

Sourashtra College, a Linguistic Minority Co-educational Institution, took its birth in June 1967, with Pre-University Courses, in the premises of the age old Sourashtra High School situated on Kamarajar Salai in Madurai City. The Philanthropists of this migrated Sourashtra community, with determination and dedication marshalled funds from the large hearted Sourashtra people and their well wishers to take on the construction of buildings for the college.

This College was instituted by the Sourashtra College Council. Inspired by a "Strong benevolence of Soul", the members of the Sourashtra College Council raised the magnificient buildings of the College on the slope of Pasumalai hill on the Vilachery Main Road 6 kilometers away from Railway station and Bus stand in 1972 and the College has been functioning here since July, 1972.

It has the panoramic view of the Thiruparankundram Hill and the Temple, one of the six shrines dedicated to Lord Muruga. At present an eminent team of 125 staff are rendering yeomen service to more than 2000 undergraduate students and 250 postgraduate students in various disciplines.

This is an aided private college affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. The Sourashtra College Council has been managing two institutions viz:

1. Sourashtra College ( Co-Educational Institution).

2. Sourashtra College For Women (Estabilished in the year 1998).

The teaching faculty and the Management are dedicated to the teaching and discipline. The maintainence of discipline among the students is of high order.
